Coloplast SenSura® Mio Convex Light 1-Piece Urostomy Pouches are one-piece convex urinary stoma appliances designed for continuous collection and drainage of urine from a urostomy.

The Light Convex baseplate provides moderate convex support while retaining flexibility during normal body movement. It is designed particularly for stomas with an opening approximately level with the surrounding skin that need moderate help to protrude, and for shallow inward or dipped areas where a light convex curve can help establish secure contact around the stoma.

SenSura® Mio Convex Light combines Coloplast's BodyFit Technology® elastic adhesive with integrated flexlines, providing stability immediately around the stoma while allowing the appliance to flex with individual body contours.

The pouch and Light Convex adhesive baseplate are permanently joined to form a complete one-piece urostomy appliance. The complete appliance is removed and replaced when a pouch change is required.

What is Light Convex?

SenSura® Mio Convex Light provides a moderate degree of convex support.

The curved baseplate is designed to apply controlled support around the stoma, helping a stoma that sits approximately level with the skin to protrude more effectively into the pouch.

It can also help the adhesive establish contact within a shallow inward or dipped peristomal area.

Light Convex is positioned between SenSura® Mio Convex Soft and Convex Deep.

Convex Soft

Provides gentler convex support.

It is primarily designed for stomas whose opening is above skin level but where minor folds or creases around the stoma make additional support useful.

Convex Light

Provides moderate convex support.

It is particularly suitable for:

• Stomas approximately level with the skin

• Shallow inward areas

• Dipped peristomal contours

• Stomas needing moderate help to protrude

Convex Deep

Provides stronger convex support.

It is designed primarily for stomas below skin level and deeper inward areas requiring more substantial help to protrude.

The correct degree of convexity depends on both the stoma and the surrounding abdominal profile.

Integrated flexlines

SenSura® Mio Convex incorporates integrated flexlines within the convex baseplate.

These are designed to combine:

• Stability close to the stoma

BodyFit Technology®

One-piece appliance

SenSura® Mio Convex Light urostomy is a one-piece appliance.

The pouch and Light Convex adhesive baseplate are permanently attached.

There is:

• No mechanical coupling ring

When the appliance requires changing, the complete pouch and adhesive baseplate are removed together and replaced with a new appliance.

Urostomy pouch

A urostomy produces urine continuously, so the pouch is designed to collect urine and allow it to be emptied repeatedly without removing the appliance.

The pouch should be emptied regularly rather than being allowed to become excessively full or heavy.

Regular emptying helps:

• Reduce weight pulling on the adhesive

Urine management and non-return design

SenSura® Mio convex urostomy pouches incorporate an internal urine-management design that helps control urine within the pouch.

The pouch includes a non-return system and internal chambering designed to help reduce collected urine flowing back towards the stoma and to distribute urine within the pouch.

This helps:

• Keep collected urine away from the stoma

• Reduce excessive movement of urine inside the pouch

• Distribute urine more evenly

• Maintain a more discreet pouch profile

The non-return design does not replace the need to empty the pouch regularly.

Drainage outlet

The pouch incorporates a dedicated urostomy drainage outlet that allows urine to be emptied repeatedly during normal wear.

When emptying:

• Position the outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle

• Open the drainage outlet

• Allow urine to drain completely

• Avoid allowing the outlet to contact the toilet or receptacle

• Wipe the outlet if required

• Close it securely

Always check that the outlet is completely closed before repositioning clothing.

Overnight drainage

SenSura® Mio urostomy pouches can be connected to an appropriate overnight urine drainage bag using the appropriate connection system.

A larger night drainage bag provides additional capacity while sleeping and can reduce the need to wake repeatedly to empty the pouch.

When using overnight drainage:

• Use the appropriate compatible connector/adaptor

• Ensure all connections are secure

• Position the night drainage bag below the level of the urostomy pouch

• Keep tubing free from kinks

• Avoid trapping tubing beneath the body or bedding

• Ensure the tubing does not pull on the pouch

• Check that urine can drain freely

Always follow the instructions supplied with the urostomy appliance and drainage system.

Neutral Grey pouch

The Neutral Grey variants incorporate SenSura® Mio's soft textile woven covering.

The material is designed to look and feel more like clothing fabric than conventional medical pouch material.

These adjustable options provide a defined initial opening while allowing limited enlargement where required.

Measuring the stoma

Measure the urinary stoma using an appropriate stoma measuring guide.

The finished opening should:

• Fit closely around the stoma

• Avoid rubbing against it

• Avoid constricting it

• Minimise exposed peristomal skin

• Follow the actual stoma shape where required

An opening that is too large may expose surrounding skin to urine and increase the risk of leakage and irritation.

An opening that is too small may rub against or constrict the stoma.

Do not enlarge the opening beyond the manufacturer's stated cutting range.

Opening size and convexity are separate considerations

Choosing the correct opening size does not automatically mean that the selected degree of convexity is appropriate.

Convexity selection also depends on:

• Stoma protrusion

• Whether the stoma opening is above, level with or below the skin

• Depth of the surrounding area

• Abdominal folds

• Creases

• Peristomal skin condition

• Previous leakage

• Pressure tolerance

• Individual body profile

Light Convex is intended to provide moderate support.

Persistent leakage despite a correctly fitted opening may indicate that another appliance profile should be considered.

Applying the appliance:

Wash and dry your hands.

Measure the stoma if required.

Select the appropriate Light Convex pouch and opening range.

Prepare the opening according to the measured stoma size and manufacturer's cutting guide.

Ensure the drainage outlet is securely closed.

Gently remove the existing appliance while supporting the surrounding skin.

Clean the peristomal area according to the normal stoma-care routine.

Ensure the skin is appropriately clean and dry.

Remove the protective backing from the adhesive.

Centre the opening carefully over the stoma.

Apply the Light Convex baseplate around the stoma.

Press gently but firmly to establish secure contact.

Smooth the adhesive outward.

Check the complete baseplate for:

• Gaps

• Folds

• Creases

• Areas without secure skin contact

Apply gentle hand pressure around the adhesive to help establish the seal.

Emptying the pouch:

Empty the pouch regularly and before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Position the drainage outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle.

Open the outlet according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Allow urine to drain completely.

Avoid allowing the outlet to touch the toilet or receptacle.

Wipe the outlet if necessary.

Close it securely.

Check that the outlet is fully closed before repositioning clothing.

Changing the appliance:

Because this is a one-piece appliance, the pouch and Light Convex adhesive baseplate are removed together.

Wash and dry your hands.

Gently lift an edge of the adhesive.

Support the surrounding skin while slowly peeling the appliance away.

Avoid rapidly pulling the adhesive from the skin.

Dispose of the used appliance appropriately.

Clean and inspect the peristomal skin before applying a replacement appliance.

• Seek advice from a Stoma Care Nurse for recurrent leakage, persistent skin irritation, pressure-related problems or uncertainty regarding appliance selection

• Cloudy or unusually foul-smelling urine, fever, flank pain or other symptoms suggesting urinary infection require appropriate clinical assessment

• Significant changes in stoma colour or appearance should also be assessed appropriately

• Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for use
