Coloplast SenSura® Mio Convex Soft 1-Piece Urostomy Pouches are one-piece convex urinary stoma appliances designed for continuous collection and drainage of urine from a urostomy.

The Soft Convex baseplate provides gentle convex support while remaining flexible during body movement. It is designed particularly for stomas with an opening above skin level that require gentle additional support because of minor creases, folds or unevenness in the surrounding peristomal area.

SenSura® Mio Convex Soft combines an adaptive convex baseplate with integrated flexlines and BodyFit Technology®, allowing the adhesive to follow individual body contours while providing stability immediately around the stoma.

The pouch and convex adhesive baseplate are permanently joined, forming a complete one-piece urostomy appliance. The entire appliance is removed and replaced when a pouch change is required.

What is Soft Convex?

SenSura® Mio Convex Soft provides the gentlest convex profile within the SenSura® Mio Convex Soft, Light and Deep range.

It combines a curved adhesive profile with flexibility so that the appliance can provide additional support without the firmer pressure associated with deeper convexity.

Soft Convex is particularly designed for a stoma that already protrudes above skin level, but where minor folds, creases or uneven areas around the stoma make it difficult for a completely flat appliance to maintain consistent contact.

The convex curve can help:

• Support the area immediately surrounding the stoma

• Improve adhesive contact

• Reduce gaps caused by minor skin folds

• Improve security around uneven contours

• Maintain flexibility during body movement

Soft Convex should not automatically be substituted for Light or Deep Convex. The degree of convexity should be selected according to the stoma and surrounding body profile.

Soft, Light or Deep Convex?

SenSura® Mio Convex is available in several convexity levels.

Convex Soft

Provides gentle convex support.

It is particularly suited to stomas that protrude above skin level but need additional support because of minor folds or creases in the surrounding area.

Convex Light

Provides a greater degree of convex support and is designed primarily for stomas approximately level with the skin or situated in a shallow inward area.

Convex Deep

Provides stronger convex support for stomas below skin level or situated within deeper inward areas.

Selecting the correct convexity is as important as choosing the correct stoma opening size.

Integrated flexlines

The SenSura® Mio Convex baseplate incorporates integrated flexlines.

These are designed to provide:

• Stability immediately around the stoma

• Flexibility further away from the stoma

• Adaptation during body movement

• Comfortable bending and stretching

• Secure contact with individual abdominal contours

The aim is to provide sufficient convex support without making the complete adhesive baseplate unnecessarily rigid.

BodyFit Technology®

SenSura® Mio incorporates an elastic adhesive featuring BodyFit Technology®.

The adhesive is designed to stretch and move with the body while maintaining contact with the skin.

This allows the appliance to adapt during:

• Sitting

• Bending

• Stretching

• Changes in posture

• Normal abdominal movement

Maintaining close adhesive contact is important because gaps around a urostomy can allow urine to reach the peristomal skin and contribute to leakage or irritation.

One-piece system

SenSura® Mio Convex Soft urostomy is a one-piece appliance.

The pouch and Soft Convex adhesive baseplate are permanently attached.

There is:

• No separate pouch

• No detachable baseplate

• No mechanical coupling ring

When the appliance needs changing, the complete pouch and adhesive baseplate are removed together and replaced with a new appliance.

This provides a flexible, relatively low-profile system.

Non-return / anti-reflux system

SenSura® Mio urostomy pouches incorporate an internal system designed to help reduce urine flowing back towards the stoma after it has entered the collection area.

Keeping accumulated urine away from the stoma helps support more effective urinary stoma management.

The anti-reflux function does not replace the need to:

• Empty the pouch regularly

• Ensure the outlet is securely closed

• Check for leakage

• Position overnight drainage correctly

Internal chamber design

The urostomy pouch incorporates internal chambers designed to help control movement of urine inside the pouch.

The chambered construction helps:

• Distribute urine within the pouch

• Reduce excessive sloshing

• Reduce urine pooling heavily in one area

• Maintain a more discreet pouch profile

• Improve comfort during movement

Drainable urostomy outlet

The pouch incorporates a dedicated urinary drainage outlet that allows urine to be emptied repeatedly without removing the appliance.

This is essential for continuous urostomy output.

The outlet is designed to allow convenient emptying while providing secure closure between emptying episodes.

The pouch should be emptied regularly rather than being allowed to become excessively full or heavy.

Regular emptying helps:

Always ensure the outlet is completely closed following emptying.

Overnight drainage

SenSura® Mio urostomy pouches can be connected to an appropriate overnight urine drainage system.

Using a larger night drainage bag provides additional collection capacity while sleeping and can reduce the need to wake repeatedly to empty the pouch.

When using overnight drainage:

• Use the appropriate compatible connector or adaptor

• Ensure connections are secure

• Position the drainage bag below the level of the urostomy pouch

• Keep tubing free from kinks

• Avoid trapping the tubing underneath the body or bedding

• Ensure tubing does not pull on the pouch

• Check that urine can drain freely

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for the pouch and drainage system being used.

Neutral Grey pouch

The Neutral Grey variants use SenSura® Mio's soft textile woven covering.

The material is designed to look and feel more like clothing fabric than conventional medical pouch material.

Midi or Maxi?

Midi

Reference 16801 provides a more compact pouch.

It is available as:

Midi may suit users who prefer a smaller pouch and whose urine output and emptying routine make the smaller capacity practical.

Maxi

The remaining variants use the larger Maxi pouch.

Maxi provides greater urine collection capacity and is available in:

Maxi may be preferred where:

Choosing the correct opening

The Soft Convex urostomy range includes several opening options.

10–33mm starter hole

Available with:

• 16801 – Midi Neutral Grey

The opening can be prepared within the stated range according to the measured stoma.

10–50mm starter hole

Available with:

• 13678 – Maxi Neutral Grey

These options provide a wider cutting range and may be suitable for larger urinary stomas.

25mm adjustable opening

Reference 13680 has a 25mm opening that may be enlarged up to 33mm.

This can be useful where a prepared 25mm starting opening is appropriate but limited enlargement may be required.

Measuring the stoma

The opening should fit closely around the stoma without rubbing against or constricting it.

Before preparing the appliance:

• Measure the stoma

• Check both width and shape

• Select a product with an appropriate cutting range

• Prepare the opening according to the manufacturer's cutting guide

The final opening should:

• Follow the shape of the stoma

• Minimise exposed peristomal skin

• Avoid direct pressure against the stoma

• Remain within the permitted cutting range

An opening that is too large can expose surrounding skin to urine and increase the risk of leakage and irritation.

An opening that is too small can rub against or constrict the stoma.

Opening size and convexity are separate considerations

Correct opening size does not automatically mean that the selected convex profile is appropriate.

Convexity selection also depends on:

• Stoma protrusion

• Whether the opening lies above, level with or below the skin

• Peristomal folds

• Creases

• Abdominal contour

• Skin condition

• Previous leakage

• Pressure tolerance

Soft Convex is intended to provide gentle additional support rather than pronounced convex pressure.

Persistent leakage despite a correctly fitted opening may indicate that another convex profile or appliance design should be considered.

Applying the appliance:

Wash and dry your hands.

Measure the stoma if required.

Select the appropriate Soft Convex variant and opening range.

Prepare the opening according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Ensure the urinary drainage outlet is securely closed.

Gently remove the existing appliance while supporting the surrounding skin.

Clean the peristomal skin according to the normal stoma-care routine.

Ensure the skin is appropriately clean and dry.

Remove the protective backing from the adhesive.

Centre the opening carefully over the stoma.

Apply the Soft Convex baseplate around the stoma.

Press gently but firmly to establish secure contact.

Smooth the adhesive outward.

Check for:

• Gaps

• Creases

• Folds

• Areas without secure skin contact

Apply gentle hand pressure to the adhesive to help establish the seal.

Emptying the pouch:

Empty the pouch regularly and before it becomes excessively full.

Position the urinary drainage outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle.

Open the outlet according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Allow the urine to drain.

Avoid allowing the outlet to touch the toilet or receptacle.

Wipe the outlet if required.

Close it securely.

Check that the outlet is fully closed before repositioning clothing.

Changing the appliance:

Because this is a one-piece appliance, the pouch and Soft Convex baseplate are removed together.

Wash and dry your hands.

Gently lift an edge of the adhesive.

Support the surrounding skin while slowly peeling the appliance away.

Avoid rapidly pulling the adhesive from the skin.

Dispose of the used appliance appropriately.

Clean and inspect the peristomal area before applying a replacement pouch.

• Seek advice from a Stoma Care Nurse for recurrent leakage, persistent skin irritation, pressure-related problems or uncertainty regarding appliance selection

• Cloudy or unusually foul-smelling urine, fever, flank pain or other symptoms suggesting urinary infection require appropriate clinical assessment

• Significant changes in stoma colour or appearance should also be assessed appropriately
