ConvaTec Stomahesive® Wafers
ConvaTec Stomahesive® Wafers are multi-purpose hydrocolloid skin barriers designed to protect the skin around a stoma and assist with the management of difficult or irregular peristomal areas.
The wafer provides a protective layer between the skin and the ostomy appliance and can be cut to the required shape and opening, making it particularly useful where the skin surface is uneven, scarred or otherwise difficult to manage with a standard appliance alone.
Stomahesive® Technology combines three naturally derived hydrocolloids to provide secure adhesion and skin-friendly protection while remaining gentle on removal.

-
Protecting skin around a stoma
-
Difficult-to-fit stomas
-
Uneven or irregular peristomal skin
-
Scarred areas around the stoma
-
Creating a protective surface underneath an ostomy appliance
-
Situations where a standard pre-cut barrier does not adequately conform to the skin
-
Customising a protective barrier to an individual stoma size and shape
Directions:
Clean the skin around the stoma according to the normal stoma-care routine.
Dry the surrounding skin thoroughly.
Measure the stoma and determine the area requiring protection.
Mark the required opening on the Stomahesive® Wafer.
Carefully cut the wafer to the appropriate shape and stoma opening.
Remove the protective backing and apply the wafer smoothly to the skin.
Press gently around the entire wafer to establish good contact with the skin and smooth out any wrinkles.
Apply the compatible ostomy pouch or baseplate over the Stomahesive® Wafer according to the appliance manufacturer's instructions.
At each appliance change, gently remove the wafer and reassess the surrounding skin.
Important information:
-
For external peristomal skin protection
-
Current UK-listed S100 and S101 wafers are non-sterile
-
They are supplied without a starter hole
-
The stoma opening must therefore be cut to the required size before use
-
The opening should fit closely around the stoma without constricting it
-
Avoid cutting the opening excessively large, as exposed skin may come into contact with stoma output
-
Apply to appropriately clean and dry skin
-
Avoid wrinkles and folds beneath the appliance
-
Do not apply directly over the stoma itself
-
Monitor the skin at each appliance change for redness, soreness, maceration or breakdown
-
Persistent leakage may indicate that the appliance fit, seal or level of convexity requires reassessment
-
Persistent or deteriorating peristomal skin problems should be assessed by a Stoma Care Nurse
-
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for use
