ConvaTec Esteem®+ One-Piece Closed-End Pouch is a flat, one-piece colostomy pouch that combines the skin barrier and pouch into a single integrated appliance. It is designed to provide a simple, secure and discreet pouching system for people with a colostomy and relatively formed or predictable output.

The Esteem®+ system features a Modified Stomahesive® skin barrier, designed to adhere gently to the peristomal skin while helping protect it from contact with stoma output. The closed-end design means the complete pouch is removed and replaced when required rather than emptied.

A closed-end pouch is generally most appropriate where output is sufficiently formed and predictable for the entire pouch to be removed and replaced when required. People with frequent or liquid output may find a drainable pouch more appropriate.

Directions:

Select the appropriate pouch size and stoma opening.

For a pre-cut pouch, ensure the opening closely matches the current stoma diameter.

For a cut-to-fit pouch, measure the stoma and carefully cut the barrier opening to the appropriate size.

The opening should fit closely around the stoma without constricting it.

Ensure the peristomal skin is clean and completely dry.

Remove the protective backing from the skin barrier.

Centre the opening carefully over the stoma.

Press the Modified Stomahesive® barrier gently but firmly onto the surrounding skin, smoothing it into place to establish good contact.

When the pouch requires changing, gently peel the complete appliance away from the skin while supporting the surrounding skin.

Dispose of the used closed pouch appropriately.

Important information:

• Select the correct pouch and opening size for the individual stoma

• A barrier opening that is too large can expose peristomal skin to stoma output

• An opening that is too small may place unwanted pressure on the stoma

• Re-measure the stoma periodically, particularly after surgery or following changes in body shape

• Apply to clean and dry skin

• Avoid oily creams or products that may interfere with adhesion unless specifically recommended for ostomy use

• Monitor the skin regularly for redness, soreness, breakdown or leakage

• Replace the pouch if leakage occurs or the adhesive seal becomes compromised

• Persistent leakage or skin problems may indicate that a different size, barrier or pouching system is required

• Seek advice from a Stoma Care Nurse if pouch leakage or peristomal skin problems persist
